Tack Down Carpet

Use the carpet kicker and stretch the carpet over the tacks and past the tack strip by 1 4 inch.

Once the carpet is rolled out and installed it has to be tacked down. The carpet tack should grip the edges of the carpet through the carpet backing. Step 5 tuck the end of the carpet into the gap between the tack strip and the tile by using a stair tool or a putty knife. Position a carpet kicker tool 3 inches away from the end of the carpet in the doorway.

Then put the seam tape under the two edges. Reach in front of the power stretcher to hook the carpet onto the tack strip. Lift one corner of the carpet with a pair of pliers and gently tease it free of the tack strip photo 1. Each tack strip is approximately 4 feet long.

Press down on the carpet firmly without using a hammer so the tacks don t break or bend before they get hold of the carpet. Only remove the ones that were exposed from the carpet pull up inspection. The metal spiked head should face the doorway and the rubber pad should be near your knee. Then take your seam iron and run it across the tape.

Cut the carpet with a slotted blade knife so that it is even with the edge of the tile. Wear protective gloves since the tack strips are filled with sharp points. Lay two pieces of carpet directly up against one another. Use a scrap board to prevent damage to the baseboard.

Also be careful not to pull the carpet past doorways where you might break a seam. Nail the carpet tack strip to the floor using a hammer. Tackless strips have at least three nails that run opposite the tacks. Push the lever down to stretch the carpet taut.

The installation process is designed to hold the carpet in place for decades making it difficult to get up without the right equipment. Continue along the wall then trim excess with the wall trimmer and tuck the edge underneath the baseboard. Then you ll be able to grab hold of the carpet and pull it away from all the tack strips like a zipper. Step 7 press forward on the knee portion of the tool to stretch the carpet and use a putty knife to tuck the edge of the carpet into the tack strip down in the floor.

This will melt the tape and make it hold the two pieces of carpet together. It s easy to unravel the fibers. If you have tack down carpet in your home it can be hard to remove.
